Admissions and Advice

It is recommended that you keep yourself updated on any changes to these lists. The full entry requirements as stipulated in the university’s regulations and by-laws apply for admission to the University of Malta. Dates and deadlines are applicable for different courses. Course applications are to be submitted by the given deadline. Some courses do not accept late applications.

Dates and Deadlines
The UM academic year commences every October, but you can apply online starting in November for your preferred course. Another intake, on a smaller scale, is held in February. Applicants holding overseas qualifications. The application processing fee for applicants holding overseas qualifications is EUR 95 until the first deadline for applications. Late applications for those courses that accept applications following the first deadline are EUR 150.
Applicants holding local qualifications. The application processing fee for applicants holding local qualifications is EUR 25 until the first deadline for applications. Late applications, for those courses that accept applications following the first deadline, are EUR 60.
Change of Course Fees
Applicants who applied for undergraduate and postgraduate courses The Change of Course processing fee is free of charge until the first deadline for applications. A processing fee of EUR 35 applies until the second deadline for applications. A processing fee of EUR 45 applies thereafter. Change of Course requests are only applicable to new applicants who have already submitted a UM application for the next academic intake. Students who are already enrolled in a course and currently pursuing their studies at UM cannot request a change of course.

Study Extension and Additional Fees
An extension of studies gives you additional time to complete your dissertation or thesis. Whether you are registered on a part-time or full-time basis, in special circumstances, UM may grant you an extension of your studies to finish your work. In this case, fees are applicable as follows:
Undergraduate level (applicable only to fee-paying students)
In the undesirable circumstance of failing a year of studies and having to repeat the year of studies, the standard annual tuition fee will apply. If, however, you fail the first two assessment attempts of an individual study unit/s and still qualify to progress to the subsequent year, the University will only charge you a pro-rata additional fee according to the ECTS value.
Postgraduate and doctoral level
Both part-time and full-time students, whether non-EU/EEA or EU/EEA, who receive an extension of studies, must pay an annual fee of EUR 400 for postgraduate courses (leading to a Master’s degree) and € 600 for doctoral courses.

There are some 11,500 students, including around 1,400 international students from over 100 different countries and 600 visiting overseas students, following full-time or part-time degree and diploma courses.
