About The Institute

A wide range of graduate programs leading to Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees are offered coordinated and administered by the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research at EMU. These programs are hosted in the Business and Economics, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Law, Architecture, Communications, Education, Tourism, Health Sciences, and Pharmacy Faculties and in the School of Computing and Technology, and managed by the departments in these faculties and schools. The Institute is responsible for overseeing, processing, and coordinating matters concerning graduate admissions, assistantships, thesis proposals, and defenses, supervisions, and examinations, subject to the by-laws of the University and the regulations lay down by the University Senate. The Institute serves to maintain quality in graduate education by adapting universally accepted academic principles and criteria.

The aim of graduate studies at EMU is to equip the students with a high-level academic background as well as the necessary skills to be competent in the academic world, industry, or the service sector. Graduate studies at EMU are founded on academic freedom and ethical conduct. Our mission is to raise graduates who can follow new developments and trends in their area of specialization, true academicians with developed research, and communication skills capable of contributing to society in several different ways. The faculty members have a wide range of Faculty Research Interests that allow the practice of interdisciplinary research besides classical research areas. More than 2000 master’s and Ph.D. holders from EMU have been employed in the academia, public and private sector.

Admission Requirements

At Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), you will have an opportunity to carry out graduate studies in the field that you acquired your bachelor’s degree or in a relatedfield, having completed the required deficiency program which will not be longer than one year.

  • Applications are accepted twice a year for Fall and Spring semesters. Application deadlines are announced on the web site of the Institute. 
  • Prospective applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s Degree for Master’s programs and also meet departmental admission requirements.
  • Applicants for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs must possess a master’s degree.
  • For Master’s program with thesis and PhD programs, the Turkish Republic citizens must have a program relevant valid ALES score of a minimum of 55. GRE (mathematical) = 610 or GMAT= 450 are equivalent to ALES=55. 
  • The programs, that are run under Business Administration Department, require ALES from both Turkish Republic (TC) and T.R.N.C (K.K.T.C.) nationals. For details please click. 

English Language Requirement

For master’s programs that are taught in English and all PhD programs (in English and Turkish), evidence of English language ability is required. If you do not have a valid English language qualification that meets the EMU requirements presented in the table below, your level will be assessed by examination at EMU.

Based on this assessment, one of the following will apply:

  • you will be exempt from the English Language Support Program and begin your postgraduate study directly;
  • you will study English courses together with graduate program courses;
  • you will study intensive English courses first (with no graduate program courses) before you start your graduate program.

Registration

Go to the Registrar’s Office with your Admission Letter to get your student number and your payment slip. If you have an English language qualification that gives you exemption from the English Support Program, please present the original copy at this stage.

  • If the necessary payment has already been made, the Registrar’s Office will complete your registration and will give access to course registration.
  • If the payment has not been made, go to the bank to make your payment indicating your student number. Then, bring the payment receipt back to the Registrar’s Office to get your access.
  • After you gain access to course registration, and you have a recognized English language qualification (i.e. IELTS 6.5, etc.), go to your department for course registration.
  • If you do not have a recognized English language qualification, you have to take the EMU English Placement Test. The tests are conducted by the English Preparatory School. Please visit http://sfl.emu.edu.tr and enter your student number in order to find out the test date, time, and exam room.
  • If you do not wish to take the English Placement Test and would like to use your current recognized English language qualification in order to be placed into an appropriate English Support Program course, please visit the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research.

Scholarship Opportunities

100 % or 50 % tuition fee scholarship opportunities are available for new students from Turkey and other international students in the PhD programs. 100 % and 50% tuition fee scholarship is available for new students from Turkey and 50% tuition fee scholarship is available for other international students in the Master’s programs.

Students who will enroll in their respective programs for the first time may apply for scholarship opportunities. (Students who terminate (or dismissed)  their registration and re-apply can not get scholarship) The applications are made during the online program application. Applications are accepted from prospective students twice a year for Fall and Spring semesters.

    • You will take English classes in addition to your graduate program courses.
    • Before beginning your graduate program, you will attend rigorous English classes (without graduate program courses).
    • You will be excluded from the English Language Support Program and will be able to begin your postgraduate studies immediately.
